Former Ranger Takes the Field with the Cats

Former pitcher Jeff Russell is also on staff for the Cats

The Fort Worth Cats will play their first game of the 2012 season Wednesday night vs. Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings and a former Texas Ranger will be on the field.

Benji Gil, former Rangers shortstop, will start for the Cats in place of ex-TCU Horned Frog SS Shelby Ford who is out with a hamstring injury.

Gil, who eventually won a World Series with the Angels, batted .237 in the majors with 171 RBIs and 32 home runs.

With new ownership installed in the Cats front office, the team is also welcoming new coaches and players.  Art Senato and former Rangers pitcher Jeff Russell are managing.
