Former Maverick to Represent Dallas at NBA Draft Lottery

The Dallas Mavericks are hoping a former player brings them a bit of luck at Tuesday night's NBA Draft Lottery.

Longtime Maverick Michael Finley will represent the team at the event, which begins at 7 p.m.

Each of the NBA's 14 non-playoff teams participates in the lottery. Teams receive a percentage of 1,000 four-number combinations in inverse order to their record in the 2016-17 season.

Dallas' 2016-17 record of 33-49 was ninth-worst in the NBA, so they'll have the ninth-best chance — 1.7 percent — to wind up with the first pick in the 2017 NBA Draft.

The league then adds 14 ping pong balls numbered 1 through 14 into a machine and draws one at random for the first, second and third picks. The next 11 teams are then slotted fourth through 14th based on regular-season record.

The Mavericks have a 6.11 percent chance of winning a top-3 pick. They have a 2 percent chance of winning the No. 2 pick and a 2.41 percent chance at the third overall pick.

Dallas will most likely pick ninth (81.31 percent) or 10th (12.2 percent). There is also a slim chance (0.382 percent) they pick 11th or 12th.

The Mavericks do not own a second-round pick in this draft. The team traded it to the Philadelphia 76ers as part of a trade for Nerlens Noel.
