As the work week ends today, so does the weekly slate of spring football games around the area with more to come next week. There are a handful more games set for tonight.
Stephenville, 6:30 p.m.
The Yellow Jackets started last season with consecutive losses to Aledo and Denton Guyer while installing a new scheme under a new coaching staff, but they got rid of their growing pains quickly, reeling off nine wins in their next 10 games before bowing out in the third round of the playoffs to district foe Everman, who handed them their only district loss, 56-3, before they lost by just three points in the playoffs. That result alone shows how much the Yellow Jackets improved throughout the season, and while these aren't the national powerhouse Yellow Jackets of old, they still will be a formidable force in the upcoming season.
Springtown, 6 p.m.
The Porcupines started last season with three straight wins against subpar competition before hitting league play in a subpar district and going 3-4 in district play and bowing out with a blowout loss to Wichita Falls Rider in the first round of the postseason. They have some work to do, and it starts tonight.
Weatherford, 7 p.m.
Easily one of the coolest mascots in the area, the Kangaroos didn't have much else going for them last season, going 1-9 with the lone win of the season coming in a district-opening win over Fort Worth Paschal. They were outscored 411-183 on the season.
Keller Central, 6 p.m., KISD Stadium
The Chargers won their first two games of the year over Mansfield Legacy and Carrollton Newman Smith before dropping six straight and taking their lumps in the very difficult District 5-5A, which includes Euless Trinity and Colleyville Heritage. They were a young team still growing and should show some improvement this year, though it will be still tough going for the Chargers.
Rockwall, 6 p.m.
Another group of Yellow Jackets, Rockwall didn't have quite the success of Stephenville, going 4-6 last year, including tough and close losses to the best two teams in their district, Rockwall-Heath and Highland Park, losing by a combined 13 points.
