Duncanville ISD to Investigate Possible Recruitment Violations: UIL

District to investigate star player and transfer guard Deja Kelly, who moved from San Antonio

One of the most decorated and storied high school sports programs in North Texas is under investigation over concerns of possible recruiting violations.

The investigation is centered around the Duncanville Pantherettes basketball team, winners of four Texas state championships since 2012.

The University Interscholastic League told NBC 5 its executive committee met last week to rule on the eligibility of a student-athlete. During the course of that investigation, the committee received text messages that raised recruitment concerns about Hannah Gusters, who transferred from Duncanville to Irving MacArthur in December.

The committee has now instructed the Duncanville Independent School District to investigate and return their findings back to the UIL. Duncanville ISD's review is due in 30 days.

Head coach Cathy Self-Morgan could come under the microscope. She's run the program since 2000 and has more than 1,100 career wins.

The Pantherettes were upset by South Grand Prairie 71-60 in the opening round of the playoffs, ending their quest for another state title.
