Texas Congressman Joe Barton wants the Bowl Championship Series dropped.
On Thursday, the Ennis Republican proposed legislation to replace the BCS with a playoff system.
The move came just hours before top-ranked Florida (13-1) won its second BCS championship by beating No. 2 Oklahoma (12-2) in Miami.
Several schools -- including the Texas Longhorns (12-1) -- believe their teams are the rightful champions.
Barton is the top Republican on the House Energy and Commerce Committee and argues calling the game a national championship is "patently deceptive."
His legislation would prevent the NCAA from doing so unless the game culminates from a playoff system.
The BCS features a championship game between the two top teams in the BCS standings, based on two human polls and six computer ratings.
