Dragons' Spring Game Highlights List

Southlake Carroll looking to bounce back from "disappointment"

A 9-3 record for most teams would be something to be proud of, but for the Southlake Carroll Dragons, it's pretty disappointing.

The Dragons were knocked out of the playoffs in the second round, losing to Cedar Hill, after enduring regular-season losses to Coppell and Hebron, and they'll look to start the trek to getting back to their dominant ways on Thursday with their spring game, which highlights a list of many taking place this week.

Thursday

Southlake Carroll, 6 p.m.
With Kyle Padron off to SMU, the Dragons will be looking to replace a quarterback for the second time in as many years, as Padron took over for Riley Dodge before last season. They'll also lose their best receiver, Josh Rake, defensive end Brayden Burnett and kicker/linebacker Cade Foster, who will kick at Alabama next season. But they do return Texas Tech commit Jackson Richards at the other defensive end spot. One thing always holds true with the Dragons: They always seem to find skill players on the offensive side of the ball under Todd Dodge formerly, and now Hal Wasson.

Rowlett, 6 p.m., at Homer B. Johnson Stadium
The Eagles are loaded athletically on a yearly basis, and this year should be no different. They went 7-4 last year and lost in the first round of the playoffs to Dallas Skyline, but should be right back in the thick of things in the fall. The Eagles will be looking for a replacement for backfield workhorse Dexter Imade, who accounted for more than 1,500 rushing yards and nine touchdowns a year ago.

Coppell, 6 p.m.
Going 8-4 last year was a big step for the Cowboys, but now they'll have to continue that momentum under a new head coach and without top receiver Jaxon Shipley, brother of UT's Jordan Shipley, who now plays for Brownwood under his father, Bob. They'll also have to replace all-purpose running back Evans Okotcha, who accounted for over 1,500 total yards and 16 touchdowns last year. They also lose receiver Jordan Tollet and dual-threat QB Konner Joplin, meaning the Cowboys will be reloading at just about every skill position.

South Grand Prairie, 6 p.m.
The Warriors went 7-4 last year, losing in the first round of the playoffs to eventual state champion Allen. Always known for their stout defensive teams, last year was no different as the Warriors' defense finished third amongst 5A Metroplex schools with just 240 total yards allowed per game. That will be what makes them competitive again this year as well.
