Diablos Down Cats 5-3 in 13 innings

Eddy Rodriguez's two-run double in the 13th lifted the Diablos over the Cats 5-3 Sunday night at LaGrave Field.

With the win, the Diablos won the series, taking 2-of-3 in the weekend set from the Cats.

The Cats took a 1-0 first inning lead on an RBI single by Cameron Blair scoring Brian Fryer. It stayed 1-0 until the fifth when the Diablos scored a run on a sacrifice fly by Mike Provencher.

John Allen's RBI double brought home Blair in the bottom of the fifth for a 2-1 Cats' lead, but El Paso rallied again in the top of the sixth, getting an RBI single by Hector Bernal to tie the game 2-2.

In the top of the ninth, Jorge Alvarez led off with a bunt single, he moved to third on a Provencher single and scored on a Matt Imwalle sacrifice fly for a 3-2 El Paso lead.

With two outs in the ninth, the Cats rallied to tie the game as Michael Bell singled and Allen hit a sinking line drive which skipped past Alvarez to the wall for a game-tying RBI double.

The game remained tied 3-3 until the top of the 13th when Juan Camacho walked to lead off the inning and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt. After Jeff Vincent also drew a walk, Rodriguez double to right, scoring both for a 5-3 El Paso lead.

Anthony Pluta, who worked a scoreless 12th inning for the Diablos got the win to improve to 2-4. Tyler Pearson suffered the loss as he permitted two runs on two hits in two innings of work. Yuri Santana notched his first save of the season as he retired the side in order in the 13th.

The Cats have Monday off before five position players and one pitcher participate in the American Association All-Star Game on Tuesday in Grand Prairie. The team returns to action on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. in Shreveport.
