Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant said he gave away his pet monkey during a radio interview Thursday.
Bryant told 1310 The Ticket that he gave his Capuchin monkey — named Dallas — to a friend that lives "in the country."
"I had to give him away to my friend, but I get to see him," he said.
Bryant did not say why he gave the monkey away.
"That monkey was one of us," he told The Ticket. "He got pure A-1 treatment."
Bryant posted a picture of Dallas on Instagram last October after buying him out of Ft. Lauderdale.
Upon learning that Bryant had acquired the monkey, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals demanded the monkey be confiscated and turned over to them.

"Monkeys belong in the wild-not in the hands of football players who acquire exotic animals just to make a splash on Instagram," PETA spokeswoman Brittany Peet said in November.
City of DeSoto officials said at the time that not enough evidence was available to obtain a search warrant for the monkey.
