The University of Kansas is getting one of the top high school basketball players in Texas.

Denton Guyer forward Jalen Wilson announced his commitment to the Jayhawks via Twitter on Wednesday.

“I just wanted to go to a place that was best for me,” said Wilson. “Now that I am in the Big 12, I’ll be close to my family. They can come see me play a lot. I just feel like I had to make the best move for me that fits my game and go somewhere where we can win a national championship.”

The four-star prospect originally signed with the University of Michigan. Wilson was released from his National Letter of Intent in May after Wolverines head coach John Beilein's surprising departure to the NBA's Cleveland Cavaliers.

“You know, I’ve always, growing up, wanted to be a Jayhawk but certain things happened,” said Wilson. “But you know, Kansas is a great place. Allen Fieldhouse is a one-of-a-kind gym and the atmosphere. I feel like with my game and the way they play, I can do some good things there.”

As a prospect, Wilson was ranked No. 50 overall in the nation, according to 247Sports.com. He averaged 18.1 points and 7.5 rebounds last season to help Denton Guyer reach the Class 6A Region I final.
