Davis, Rangers Bounce Back, Head Home

Chris Davis posted his first four-hit game of the season as Texas beat Arizona in 12 to end the road trip

Thursday night’s 12-inning victory was huge for the Rangers.

Texas weathered Frank Francisco’s first blown save of the season, ultimately winning on Chris Davis’s two-run home run in the top of the 12th inning. It was Davis’s first four-hit game of the season.

It seems that a performance like that one—late-game heroics, generally good at bats, emotional victory, etc—could be just what Texas’s stumbling offense needed.

Returning home to face San Diego, Davis’s troubles (knock on wood) may be at an end; Josh Hamilton (knock on wood) may return next week; and the team still holds a half-game lead over the Angels going into Friday night.

Things could have very easily been different.

Had Texas dropped the game on Thursday night in Arizona, they would be looking at a considerable emotional hangover going into the ten-game home stand; and as we saw the last time the team was at home, the friendly confines don’t necessarily equal good vibes, and more importantly than that, wins.

But as things stand, Texas rode a few good performances and a few positive breaks to a win in the desert; could this be the kind of performance that jumpstarts a struggling club?

We’ll likely find out tonight against San Diego.

The Padres are 3-10 in their last thirteen games; nine of those losses have come at the hands of American League west teams.

With Texas still struggling at the plate, it seems as though they have a good opportunity to figure things out, with their next ten games at the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.
