Frank Luksa, a longtime Dallas sports writer and columnist known for his wry humor and incisive coverage of the Dallas Cowboys, has died. He was 77.
Elise Daniel said her father died Tuesday at a rehabilitation facility in Plano, where he had been recovering since August after triple-bypass heart surgery.
Luksa's career spanned 40 years, including stints at the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the Dallas Times Herald and The Dallas Morning News. He retired from the Morning News in 2004.
The Georgetown native began as a beat writer covering the Cowboys during their earliest years in the 1960s and later became a general sports columnist.
Luksa wrote four books on the Cowboys, including one co-authored with Roger Staubach and another with Thomas "Hollywood" Henderson.
A memorial service is planned for Friday.
