Dallas Mayor-‘til-Saturday Dwaine Caraway and Dade County Commission Chairman Joe Martinez got in on the betting action concerning the just completed NBA Finals — and, by the way, the Mavericks are basketball world champions because it can’t be said enough right now — a little late.

That might have been because Miami’s mayor, whomever she or he is, could be prescient and knew what was coming so a county commissioner had to step in by the time the series was tied at 2-2.

Anyway, time to settle up and rake in the spoils of victory, though those stone crabs Caraway won might be spoiled by the time they get here.

The hand-rolled cigars, though, should be fine.

Pizza Hut of Dallas and Burger King of Miami are working out the details that will have burger-meister Steve Wiborg temporarily employed as a pizza jockey, according to an item posted at the Dallas Business Journal’s website.

No word yet on the heavenly wager between Miami’s arch-vill… sorry, archbishop and Dallas’ bishop, but the payoff should be beyond fair because they have the ultimate bet commissioner.
