Cowboys Get A Must Win

Roy Williams Touchdown, And Solid Defense Win Game For Cowboys

All week at Valley Ranch, we heard about "changes" that were going to be made.

Wade Phillips promised things would be done, and that his team, who's backs were against the wall, would respond.

Turns out Phillips was right after the Cowboys (5-3) got the 13-9 win on Sunday against Tampa Bay (5-3).

It wasn't pretty, but it was a win. What would you expect with Brad Johnson and Jeff Garcia playing quarterback? In fact this game was so ugly we saw 11-punts.

The changes we expected were on the defensive side of the ball.

Phillips called the defensive plays for the first time this season, and the much maligned unit played their most aggressive game of the year holding the Buccaneers offense to only 48-yards rushing.

"When you stop the run you have a chance to win in this league", said defensive tackle Marcus Spears. " We always trust our coaches, and they put us in a position to make plays."

Offensively, the game was offensive. Brad Johnson was once again sloppy.

But the Cowboys managed just enough offense and took advantage of Tampa Bay penalties to get the game's only touchdown just before the half.

Newly acquired Texas native Roy Williams caught Johnson's pass to give the Cowboys the 10-6 lead at half time. Tack on another field goal, and a late game defensive stand, and the Cowboys righted the ship for at least a week

The Cowboys are now 5-3, and travel to New Jersey next week to take on the defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants.
