Another season, another Pro Bowl for Jason Witten.
The Cowboys tight end will replace Philadelphia Eagles tight end Zach Ertz, who is Super Bowl bound. This will be Pro Bowl trip No. 11 for Witten, tying him for most in Cowboys history.
The 15-year veteran caught 63 passes for 560 yards and five touchdowns this season with the Cowboys. However, the receiving total was his lowest since his rookie season back in 2003. The 8.9 yards per catch were also the lowest of his career.
Despite the regression on the stat sheet, which may have just as much to do with the offensive scheme as it does age, the 35-year old Witten says he will be back on the field next season and appears to be physically able to do so.
“I see a lot of optimism in the future and I see myself as being a part of that,” Witten said after the Cowboys beat the Eagles in Week 17. “I’m as motivated now as I’ve ever been to play this position at a high level and help my team in all situations.”
Witten will join three other Cowboys players in the Pro Bowl- defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence, left tackle Tyron Smith and center Travis Frederick. Guard Zack Martin was named a starter but will miss the game to recover from right elbow surgery.
The Pro Bowl will kick off on January 28 in Orlando, Florida.
