Cowboys Defensive End Suspended 2 Games For Violating NFL Substance Abuse Policy

The NFL is suspending Dallas Cowboys defensive end Damontre Moore for two games for violating the league's substance abuse policy, according to reports.

Damontre Moore, a DFW-native, went to Rowlett High School and was an All-American at Texas A&M University.

The newly acquired defensive end, Moore, was selected in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft by the New York Giants.

Moore was waived by the Giants in 2015 for violating team rules; he has bounced around the league over the past three years.

He will now sit out the first two weeks of the regular season and be eligible to return to the active-roster on September 18 following the team's game against the Denver Broncos. It is unclear at this time whether Moore will appeal or not.

The suspension comes at the end of a turbulent week for the Cowboys. They cut Lucky Whitehead after he was falsely accused of shoplifting; Dez Bryant showed up late to training camp; and Ezekiel Elliott is still waiting for word from the league about a possible suspension.

It all comes just a week before Owner/General Manager Jerry Jones is inducted to the National Football Hall of Fame. The team kicks off against the Arizona Cardinals in the Hall of Fame Game on Thursday, August 3 on NBC.

Defensive end David Irving, cornerback Nolan Carroll and defensive lineman Randy Gregory will also begin the season on suspension.
