College Decision Coming Soon for Highland Park QB John Stephen Jones

College choices narrowed down to three

The early signing period is over with and National Signing Day is just over a week away. That being said, Highland Park quarterback John Stephen Jones is close to making his college decision.

The son of Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones and grandson of owner Jerry Jones has narrowed the choices to three schools- Texas Tech, Arkansas and SMU.

John Stephen Jones, considered a three-star recruit, helped lead the Scots to back-to-back state championships, including that dramatic comeback win over Manvel last month at AT&T Stadium where he threw the game-winning touchdown pass to Cade Saustad with 34 seconds left in the game. Considered a three-star recruit, Jones became the first player to throw for more than 500 yards in a UIL state championship game, finishing with 564 yards and four touchdowns in the 53-29 win in the Division I state final.

Jones finished his senior year with 4,911 yards and 61 touchdowns last season through the air and is listed as the 54th-best pro-style quarterback in the nation by 247Sports.

So who’s the favorite?

Well, Jones tweeted out a photo over the weekend wearing a Texas Tech uniform and made his official visit to SMU earlier this month.  However, his grandfather is a pretty big deal at Arkansas. Jerry Jones is an alumnus and major donor to the Razorbacks.  That could be the difference-maker.
