Coaching Legend Up For Texas HOF

New Aubrey coach, former Celina great candidate for Texas Hall

G.A. Moore made headlines this spring when he accepted the head coaching position at Class 2A Aubrey, northeast of Denton, after being a retired coaching legend from his days in Celina and Pilot Point, which include six state championships, two co-championships and a career record of 412-85-9, which makes him the winningest coach in Texas history.

Now, Moore will be up for induction into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame in Waco, where he would be alongside former Texas sporting greats such as Nolan Ryan and Spike Dykes.

You can go to this Web site to find out more about the Hall of Fame, and even sign up for the chance to be a voter to decide who is inducted out of all of the nominees.

While Moore is without a doubt greatness, he hasn't been without controversy, as many accuse him of recruiting players and mysteriously getting big ol' farm boys to move into the towns he takes over after he gets there. Regardless, his credentials are indisputable, and if he doesn't get in this year, you have to think it's only a matter of time.

Following are the people he's up against for nomination. There's some pretty big names on the list:

Bud Adams: Football/Houston Oilers
Shawn Andaya: Softball/Texas A&M
Burt Hooton: Baseball/Texas
Charley Johnson: Football/Big Spring native
Louie Kelcher: Football/SMU
Tommy Kramer: Football/Rice
Justin Leonard: Golf/Dallas native
