When Jayson Lavender recently accepted the head coaching position at Wichita Falls high school, it was clear the former Garland assistant might be taking some of his DFW buddies with him.
With some more openings on his staff still to fill, Lavender brought Jayme Carr from Hebron to be his new offensive coordinator for the Coyotes. He also brought in Shawn Lewis as his defensive coordinator from Garland, The Dallas Morning News reported.
Lavender obviously comes from a successful program in Garland, but he has a test and likely his fair share of tough times ahead in Wichita Falls.
As I reported a while back on this very Web site, the Coyotes lost Travis Pride to Mansfield Summit, another talented coach with Metroplex roots from Southlake Carroll.
Wichita Falls is in a district with Little Elm, The Colony, Wichita Falls Rider (which has owned Wichita Falls football for quite some time), Lake Dallas and three Denton ISD schools, including powerhouses Ryan and Guyer.
Wichita Falls finished 3-7 last year, with a 2-5 district record after making it a couple of rounds deep in the playoffs in 2007. The Coyotes are losing a lot of their talent and don't seem to have much coming up.
One thing's for certain, if Lavender can do good things at Wichita Falls, he will be a hot commodity across the state.
