Cats Sweep Pelicans With 4-2 Win

Brian Fryer had a homer and two runs batted in and Ryan Riddle went six solid innings as the Cats defeated Pensacola 4-2 on Wednesday night in Pensacola. It was the Cats' fifth straight win as they completed the three-game sweep of the Pelicans.

The Cats took a lead in the fourth inning as Isa Garcia singled home Michael Bell and two batters later Fryer brought home two with a run-scoring single to up the Fort Worth lead to 3-0.

Pensacola scored in the bottom of the sixth as Marcos Rodriguez singled home Luis Guance with two outs. With runners at second and third and two outs, Rafael Alvarez broke to the plate trying to steal home and Riddle was charged with a balk as it was ruled that he failed to step off the pitchers' rubber before throwing home. Alvarez was awarded the plate for the second run of the inning.

Fryer greeted Pensacola reliever Brent Solich with a solo homer to lead off the top of the seventh inning and give the Cats a 4-2 lead.

Riddle (2-2) went six innings and allowed two runs on five hits while walking three and striking out one. Tyler Pearson worked two scoreless innings out of the Cats' bullpen, allowing just one base runner. Alex Morales retired the side in order in the ninth for his first save of the season.

Pelicans' starter Clegg Snipes (0-3) allowed three runs on seven hits in six innings pitched to take the loss.

The Cats return home for a three-game series with El Paso beginning on Friday night at 7:05 p.m.
