Coach Calhoun Returning to UConn

After a season of injuries, recruiting violation accusations, and a trip to the Final Four, Jim Calhoun has announced he will return to coach the UConn Huskies next year.

“It is my full intention to return for the 2009-10 season,” said Calhoun in a statement. “I look forward to coaching next season and to continuing as the head coach at Connecticut into the future. In many ways, the journey of this past season has made me realize how much I love coaching this game, how much I love my kids and how much I enjoy being at Connecticut.”

During the NCAA tournament, a report surfaced that Calhoun and UConn violated NCAA rules while recruiting Nate Miles, who is no longer at the university.  The NCAA is now investigating if any violations took place.

Calhoun's Huskies lost in the Final Four to Michigan State this year.  It was the third trip to the national semifinals for UConn, but some thought they were a favorite to win everything before losing guard Jerome Dyson to a knee injury earlier in the season.

Calhoun has coached 23 seasons at UConn, compiling a career record of 805-342 (combined between UConn and Northeastern).  He has coached UConn to two national titles in 1999 and 2004 and was elected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2005.
