Brahmas Fall in Defensive Battle With Gorillas

Texas suffers first loss of season

The game was all about defensive efforts between the Brahmas and Gorillas, and unfortunately for Texas’ offense, they fell just short as they lost in overtime 2-1.

In net for the Brahmas was Brett Jaeger who was coming off of a strong showing in his last three starts and between the pipes for Amarillo was Ryan Scott looking to earn the Gorilla’s first win of the season. Scott faced twice as many shots as Jaeger as Amarillo had 13 shots on goal compared to Texas’ 6.
In the middle frame, the team’s displayed their defensive-minded focus, not giving up any goals and few shots a side. Texas had 6 shots on goal and Amarillo had 9.

Amarillo was able to get on the boards in the final period from a Jonathan Ornelas goal, his first goal of the season in his first game in a Gorillas uniform.  Brahmas forward Greg McConnell returned to the lineup in Amarillo, and it was a feed from him to Matt Quinn that evened up the game 1-1 seven minutes later.  The goal was the Brahmas second shorthanded goal of the season.

Stellar play from both Jaeger and Scott led the teams into the extra period where Texas was unable to keep their winning streak alive when Sam Ftorek scored the game winner on the powerplay at the 3:52 mark. The win was the first for Amarillo and put Texas 3-1-1 for the season.
The Brahmas will travel to New Mexico for a Halloween Night game against the Scorpions at 8:15 PM. Fans can see the action at: http://www.nifty-tv.com/chl/.
