The Brahmas had a rough outing in their third game in three nights as they lost to the Oklahoma City Blazers 7-3 on the road.
It was early penalty trouble that had Texas down 0-1 as Blazer Cam Doull scored a powerplay goal on Brahmas starting goaltender David Cacciola. Texas found themselves in the same situation at the end of the first resulting in another Blazers powerplay goal. The Brahmas had only four shots on goal in the opening period.
The second began like the first with Oklahoma City's Doull scoring his second goal of the night, giving the Blazers the 3-0 lead. Brahmas forward Grant Jacobsen was able to get the Brahmas within two scoring his seventh goal of the season with assists from Jason Deitsch and Craig Minard.
Oklahoma City came out of the second intermission blazing scoring two unanswered goals within :30 seconds of one another in the final period on Cacciola. The Brahmas demise seemed to continue when the Blazers scored their third powerplay goal to give them the 6-1 lead. Aggressive play on both ends of the ice ultimately gave the Brahmas the man advantage in which forward Scott Sheppard was able to convert on, cutting the lead to four goals.
Brahmas head coach Dan Wildfong pulled Cacciola in favor of an extra attacker in hopes to get Texas back in the game. The plan worked out for the Brahmas as Sheppard scored on Blazers goaltender Doug Groenestege at the 14:44 mark in the final period. Jordan Cameron and Deitsch had the assists.
In the end, the Brahmas did not have enough, losing 7-3. The loss ends the Brahmas five game winning streak. Texas was 2 for 9 on the powerplay.
The Brahmas will return home Wednesday night to face the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs at 7:05 PM.
