Brahmas Hand Bugs Loss

Powerful powerplay drives key to victory.

The Brahmas were all about threes in the third game in three nights as they beat the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs 3-2 with three powerplay goals.

Things began when midway in the first period Bossier struck first midway in the first period with a goal from Mark Johnson, his first this season. The Brahmas powerplay, which has been hot as of late, was given three opportunities in the opening period due to the 'Bugs three penalties. Bossier currently carries the league's best penalty kill, but the third time was the charm as forward Grant Jacobsen took a Scott Sheppard feed in front of Ryan Mior's goal for a powerplay goal. The Brahmas outshot the Mudbugs 9-8.

The second period proved to be eventful, showcasing two penalty shots, one for each team. The first came to the 'Bugs as their captain, Chris Brassard was tripped up on a one-on-one with Texas goaltender Brett Jaeger. Brassard was injured on the play leaving the penalty shot to teammate Simon Mangos, who failed on the attempt.

Bossier was unable to stay out of the box in the second giving the Brahmas five attempts at their lethal powerplay. It was a Tyler Skworchinski shot that found its way to the back of the net at the 13:57 mark. Pete Rouleau and Craig Minard were credited with the assists.

With only two seconds remaining, the Brahmas had their chance at a penalty shot when Skworchinski broke away and getting tripped up by the Mudbugs. His attempt failed on Mior. Texas left the period up 2-1.

It was a final period full of activity, but mostly in the penalty box as 14 penalties were assessed. The Brahmas once again took control scoring their third powerplay goal of the game, this time coming from defenseman Justin Kinnunen.

Several minutes later the 'Bugs newest veteran forward, Travis Clayton, was able to sneak a goal past Brett Jaeger, but it was too little too late as the Brahmas won 3-2. The Mudbugs outshot Texas 35-30, but goaltender Jaeger put up a stellar performance for Texas to earn his fourth victory of the season.

The Brahmas will host the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs once again at the NYTEX Sports Centre this Friday at 6:05 PM.
