The Dallas Cowboys inked two of their 12 2009 draft picks Friday, signing linebacker Victor Butler and cornerback/safety DeAngelo Smith.
The Dallas Morning News' Todd Archer reports that Butler will receive the minimum-base salary for each of the four years on his rookie deal.
"He's excited," Butler's agent Jack Scharf told the Dallas Morning News. "I'm going to pick him up at the airport in San Antonio tomorrow and he's going to stay with me at my home until Tuesday. He's thrilled. He had to stay away from his teammates for a period of time because of the quarter system at Oregon State, but he's excited to get going."
Smith, who agreed to terms only a few hours after Butler, will receive a similar 4-year deal.
Butler, an All-Pac 10 linebacker at Oregon State figures to help the Cowboys' already-formidable pass rush. Smith, a University of Cincinnati product, had 12 career interceptions playing cornerback for the BearCats, but figures to shift to safety in Dallas.
The two are the first of Dallas' 12 draft picks to come to terms with the team, which really only fired up negotiations this week. The first practice of Training Camp is on Wednesday
