Baylor Runs Through Nebraska In Big XII Opener

The Bears dominate the boards and outshoot the Huskers on their way to a 16 point victory

Strap on your foam fingers and paint your faces, sports fans. It’s tournament time in the NCAA.

The Big XII tournament began on Wednesday with a display of utter domination on behalf of the Baylor Bears, who beat the Corn Huskers of Nebraska by 16 in a one-sided affair in Oklahoma City.

The Bears out-rebounded their hapless, undersized counterparts from Nebraska throughout the contest, with Baylor’s senior forward (and Dallas native) Kevin Rogers bringing down twenty boards alone.

The Bears’ scoring attack was led by Curtis Jerrells, with 19 and LaceDarius Dunn, with 18.

The Corn Huskers led only once in the contest, when they jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the early stages. The first half saw rallies from each team, and the Baylor lead was only three (30-27) at halftime. But Baylor continued the onslaught in the second half, dominating the boards and shooting at a mark of 53.5% to seal the 65-49 victory.

The poor Huskers couldn’t have seen this coming. On Saturday, they beat the Bears 66-62 in Waco, and the ninth-seeded Baylor came into Wednesday’s contest having lost 10 of their last 12 games.

The Bears don’t have long to celebrate the 16 point victory; on Thursday, they will face the top seeded Kansas Jayhawks, fresh off of a convincing ten-point victory at home last week against Texas.

For Nebraska, it's now NIT or bust.
