5A Poll Sees Some Shuffling

Southlake Carroll fades after loss

Cuba Fidel Castro

The newest edition of the Associated Press Texas high school football poll was released on Monday, and while the Class 4A poll remained virtually unchanged from a week ago, there was some shuffling in the Class 5A poll caused largely by Southlake Carroll's loss to Galena Park North Shore.

Carroll was No. 3, but fell to No. 10 after its loss to North Shore, which moved from No. 9 to No. 5. Another DFW team, the super-loaded Dallas Skyline Raiders benefited from Carroll's loss, as they moved up to No. 2 from No. 4. Cedar Hill remained No. 1, and Allen moved up a spot to No. 6, while Round Rock Stony Point somehow received a first-place vote but is ranked No. 7. Cedar Hill got the remaining first-place votes.

Abilene is the only new team in the poll, checking in at No. 9. DeSoto, Mesquite Horn and Euless Trinity are all receiving votes.

In Class 4A, the teams played to their paper for the most part as the top 7 teams remained unchanged, led locally by No. 2 Denton Guyer. In the only shake-up at the 4A level, Denton Ryan moved up a spot and swapped places with Highland Park, which dropped from No. 8 to No. 9. District 5-4A (Guyer and Ryan) and District 16-4A (Waxahachie and Waco Midway) each have two teams in the top 10. 5-4A could soon have another team as Lake Dallas is still receiving votes.

In Class 3A, Prosper moved up a spot to No. 7 while district mates Argyle and Celina are both receiving votes.
