The bid by American Vincent Hancock to win three straight gold medals in skeet is over.

USAIN BOLT MAKES HIS RIO DEBUT

Usain Bolt, the fastest man alive and defending gold medalist in the 100m, 200m and 4x100, looks to add to his immense gold stockpile.

Bolt made his grand Olympic entry with an easy victory in his 100-meter heat on Saturday.

Slow out of the blocks but majestic once he hit his stride, he had time to look left four times to see if anyone was creeping up on him. He coasted across the line in 10.07 seconds.

His main rival, Justin Gatlin showed just as much poise -- without the showmanship. He shot out of the blocks and only let up at the very end to finish in 10.01. Others to go through were Nickel Ashmeade and Yohan Blake of Jamaica and American Trayvon Brommell.

The final is Sunday night.

Bolt is seeking to accomplish an unprecedented “Triple-Triple” by becoming the first athlete to win all three titles at three consecutive games. He’s certainly not lacking for confidence.

“I’ll win all three gold (medals),” he told CNN. “There’s never anything else for me when it comes to a championship."

SHELLY-ANN FRASER-PRYCE CLOSES IN ON OLYMPIC SPRINT TRIPLE

Watch out Usain Bolt, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce might get that triple of Olympic 100-meter titles first.

Double defending champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce ran her season's best of 10.88 seconds to reach the final of the 100 and showed all the confidence that two titles bring.

In a direct confrontation with European champion Dafne Schippers, the Jamaican sprinter dominated from the start and even had time to let up a bit at the line. Schippers was late out of the blocks and the Dutchwoman struggled all the way to finish second in 10.90, hardly a race to impress her rivals.

Only Fraser-Pryce's fellow Jamaican, Elaine Thompson, matched the time in the third of the semifinals heats on Saturday.

Tori Bowie of the United States won the first semifinal. Compatriot English Gardner also made it to the final.

Among those missing out were American Tianna Bartoletta and Murielle Ahoure of Ivory Coast and Blessing Okagbare of Nigeria.

The women's final is late Saturday.
