Legislature Set to Pass Transportation Funding

The Texas Legislature is expected to finally pass a proposed constitutional amendment to boost funding for roads and bridges.

The Senate and House will convene Monday afternoon after reaching a deal that could add $848 million in transportation. Voters will have to approve a constitutional amendment in November 2014 for the money to be diverted away from the state's Rainy Day Fund.

The amendment and the accompanying legislation are the last items on the agenda for the second special session this year. The Legislature can adjourn after finally passing them.

The spending measure would give the 10-member Legislative Budget Board authority to cut off the flow of money to transportation if the Rainy Day Fund's balance falls below a level determined by the board.
