Senators Duke It Out on Twitter

Specter and Grassley, tweet to tweet

In perhaps defense of nearly 40 percent of Twitter tweets being 'Pointless Babble,' comes the tale of two Senators, one Democrat and one Republican, both duking it out over health care reform on the 140-character count social networking service.

After being shouted down at a health care town hall, Sen. Arlen Specter (D-Pa.) went after Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), Twitta-style.

See, Specter wasn't too happy that Grassely told an audience in Iowa that they had “every right to fear” and that the country “should not have a government-run plan to decide when to pull the plug on grandma," Mediaite reports.

So Sen.Arlen Specter begins by writing: "Called Senator Grassley to tell him to stop spreading myths about health care reform and imaginary 'death panels.'"

The tweeting on Specter's side then continues with:

"Had to leave a message - for now.  I will talk to him soon."

"Senator Grassley is not available on the phone today, but I will talk to him as soon as possible to clarify his position on living wills."

"I believe it is appropriate to counsel people on their choices, but no one should tell anyone else what to do about health care near the end of their lives."

ChuckGrassley finally fires back: "Specter got it all wrong that I ever used words 'death boards'. Even liberal press never accused me of that. So change ur last Tweet Arlen."

Specter merely writes:"I will try to persuade Senator Grassley that the availability of counseling is appropriate and should be included in health care reform."

Is this what those in Congress call a smackdown?  And to think this story came across the "hot wires."

Maybe it's time to raise the pointless babble percentage.
