Second Time the Charm for Capriglione in Dist. 98 Race

Capriglione ousts incumbent on second try

The second time is the charm for Giovanni Capriglione.

The Associated Press has declared Capriglione the winner of the GOP nomination for the State House District 98 race over longtime incumbent Vicki Truitt.

Capriglione, a small business owner who was once the senior vice president of an investment firm, fought Truitt for the same seat in 2010, but lost that race.

Tuesday night, with 83 percent of the precincts reporting, Truitt only had 44 percent of the vote compared to Capriglione's 56 percent.

Truitt had been the District 98 rep since 1999, serving seven terms.  Truitt chaired the Texas House Committee on Pensions, Investments and Financial Services and was a member of the House Calendars Committee and Committee on Public Health.

District 98 covers northeast Tarrant County including the towns of Keller, Colleyville, Southlake, Westlake, Grapevine and part of far north Fort Worth.
