San Antonio Councilman Investigated by Police, FBI

San Antonio's police chief says local and federal authorities are investigating a city councilman over public corruption allegations.

Chief William McManus told the San Antonio Express-News Tuesday that Councilman Cris Medina is under joint investigation by the department and the FBI.

Medina is on a leave of absence from the council while he receives public-affairs training from the U.S. Air Force Reserve. He denied any wrongdoing Tuesday and says he welcomes the probe, which he says should clear his name.

McManus didn't identify the source of the allegations and the FBI hasn't commented. Medina says he believes the investigation started with an anonymous email in July that accused him of illegally using political contributions for personal expenses.

The councilman is scheduled to return on Oct. 10.
