Perry's 2016 Campaign Says It Raised About $1M in 1st Month

Rick Perry's presidential campaign has raised about $1 million in a bit less than a month of officially vying for the 2016 Republican nomination.

The former Texas governor announced Friday that associated Super PACs bring his war chest to $18 million. But campaign fundraising accounted for only $1.07 million of that since Perry launched his bid June 4.

During his White House run in 2012, Perry entered the race late but with much fanfare. He raked in more than $17 million in about seven weeks.

But that campaign collapsed amid a series of public gaffes. Perry says this time he's humbler and better prepared, if not as well-financed.

Perry is hoping to make up for some Republican rivals' sizeable fundraising advantages with frequent trips to Iowa, which opens primary voting.
