North Texas Congressman Jeb Hensarling Will Not Seek Speaker of the House Position

U.S. Rep. endorses Rep. Tom Price (R-Ga.)

U.S. Representative and North Texas Congressman Jeb Hensarling will not pursue filling John Boehner's shoes as Speaker of the House.

NBC 5'S political expert Julie Fine confirmed through Hensarling's office Monday morning the congressman will not seek the position.

"After prayerful consideration, Chairman Hensarling is not a candidate for a leadership position. He will support Chairman Price for Majority Leader," said Hensarling's office in a prepared statement released Monday morning.

Rep. Tom Price (R-Ga.) currently serves as the chairman of the House Budget Committee and is also a member of the House Committee on Ways and Means.

Hensarling, a strong conservative who is currently the chairman of the Financial Services Committee, was among the first names brought up Friday when Boehner announced he was leaving Congress.

Hensarling, a Republican, represents a large district that includes Garland, Mesquite and Rowlett.
