Texas lawmakers want to see what they can do to attract more venture capitalists to the state.
The House Economic and Small Business Development Committee will meet Thursday morning in Austin to hear from investors and outside experts.
House Speaker Joe Straus has asked the committee to study venture capital investment in the state and compare it to what is happening elsewhere.
After hearing testimony, the committee will propose legislation to be considered when the Legislature meets again in January.
The Republican-controlled Legislature prides itself on creating a business-friendly environment. Texas does not have an income tax and limited regulation.
But critics say the state's poor performing public schools and lack of state services keep many from relocating to Texas.
