Gov. Perry to Deliver Economic Address in Houston

Comptroller to speak in Arlington Monday at 3 p.m.

Both Gov. Rick Perry and the State Comptroller will deliver speeches about the Texas economy on Monday.

Perry is in Houston on Monday to speak at New World Van Lines Inc., while Susan Combs will speak at Arlington City Hall.

The Legislature doesn't reconvene until January, but Perry spokeswoman Lucy Nashed says "it's never too early to start looking at these issues."

She says that heading into next year, the governor wants to make clear to lawmakers what must be done to ensure the state will be in good financial shape.

Legislators, who are obligated by law to balance the state budget amid huge revenue shortfalls, cut nearly $15 billion in state spending last year.

While in Arlington, the comptroller will field questions from residents on issues important to them. The session begins at City Hall (101 W. Abram Street) at 3 p.m.
