Gov. Abbott Calls Relationship with Indicted AG Paxton ‘Very Effective'

Gov. Greg Abbott is reiterating his support for indicted Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday following a signing of his new book, "Broken But Unbowed," in Austin, Abbott said Paxton "deserves his day in court."

Paxton, a Republican like Abbott, faces felony charges of defrauding investors in a tech startup before becoming attorney general. He's also being sued by federal regulators.

Paxton's spokesman said Tuesday that Abbott had expressed support for the attorney general, despite speculation top Republicans might pressure him to resign amid mounting legal problems.

Abbott's office then issued a statement saying people are "innocent until proven guilty."

Abbott repeated that sentiment personally the next day, saying that his office works "virtually every day with the attorney general" and calling that relationship "very effective."
