Conservative Lisa Fritsch Tosses Hat Into Gubernatorial Ring

Conservative commentator Lisa Fritsch says she is seeking the Republican nomination for Texas governor.

Fritsch made the announcement in Austin on Tuesday, promising to promote greater school choice, economic development while fighting special interests.

Fritsch has never held elected office and is running against Attorney General Greg Abbott and former Texas Workforce Commissioner Tom Pauken. Abbott has the financial advantage having raised about $25 million.

Fritsch is originally from Tyler, attended the University of Texas at Austin and hosted a show on KLBJ-AM. She has appeared on conservative political talk shows and wrote a political book called "Obama, Tea Parties and God."

Gov. Rick Perry announced earlier this year he would not seek re-election. Fort Worth Sen. Wendy Davis is the only Democrat in the gubernatorial race.
