Campaigns' Focus Turns to Texas for Super Tuesday

The focus of the presidential campaign is quickly shifting to Texas and the 11 other states that vote on Super Tuesday, March 1.

"Super Tuesday is a week away, and frankly we're excited that for the first time in maybe three decades, the primary is relevant when it gets to Texas," said Dallas County Republican Party Chairman Wade Emmert. "I think we're going to see a lot of the presidential candidates, especially the top three, really campaigning hard in Texas."

Republican front-runner Donald Trump opened a campaign office in DeSoto Tuesday morning.

"It's my first time volunteering," said Trump volunteer Lamar Beacham, of Arlington. "I just wanted to participate in the political process – the democratic process – and make some change in this country."

Trump hopes to deliver a knockout blow to Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) in his home state, while Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) hopes to continue his momentum.

Democrats Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders are also targeting North Texas voters, each campaign with a field office in Dallas.

"Exciting, exciting, exciting," said Clinton volunteer Maria Nuno-Estrada. "We're on fire. We're ready to go and it's amazing."

Early voting ends Friday, and the Election Day is Tuesday.
