Likewise, Mary Katrantzou explored exotic Asian scenes in her spring 2012 collection by patchworking photo-quality images of cherry blossoms and gated gardens.
We Are Handsome
Aussie label We Are Handsome staked out a corner in the swimwear market with its bright, photo-realistic prints of everything from roaring lions to classic cars. Their new ready-to-wear collection is equally striking; this slinky blue dress features a plane landing on clear water.
Similarly, fellow Aussie designer Kit Willow used a photograph of silhouetted palm trees to give her sheer silk dresses a tropical appeal.
With a cluster of palm trees and watery motif near the hemline, Stella McCartney's cool printed shift looks a bit like paradise through a kaleidoscope. $1,001 at Net-a-Porter.
You might not expect snowy mountain scenes in a spring collection, but that's precisely what you'll find in Carven's unusual new lineup, which includes these high-waisted leather shorts and winter wonderland T-shirt.
Clover Canyon
Desert skies and sandy scenes come together in a cool, stripey effect in Clover Canyon's spring collection.
Dion Lee explored out-of-this-world prints and patterns for spring 2012, rendering these elaborate moonscapes (complete with shooting comets) onto easy tee dresses and tops. $400 at Net-a-Porter.
Angel Johnson
Likewise, Angel Johnson experimented with more abstract starbursts and milky way motifs for an "intergalactic" chic look.
Matthew Williamson's structured "Kyoto" dresses feature a single panel at the hem depicting a classic Japanese landscape scene accented with a flash of yellow neon. $1,325 at Matthew Williamson.
