This Ship Is Camera-Shy

Billionaire's yacht has "anti-paparazzi" shield

A Russian billionaire who is apparently shy about his love of the good life has outfitted his 557-foot yacht with an anti-paparazzi shield.

Roman Abramovich's $1.2 billion boat, Eclipse, has two helipads, two pools, six-foot movie screens in all cabins, a mini-submarine and missile-proof windows. But the feature that may be most unique is the shield, which is made up of lasers that constantly sweep the ship's surroundings. When they detect the sensors of a digital camera in the area, they fire a bolt of light at the camera to obliterate any photograph.

Some professional photographers warn that damaging their equipment from afar could be grounds for a lawsuit.
