Snapchat Blames Photo Hacks on 3rd-Party Apps

Snapchat said Friday that third-party software apps are to blame for any security lapses that may have put users' private photos at risk of being leaked online by hackers, Reuters and NBC News reported. As many as 200,000 Snapchat photos may have been stolen in the hack, which has been dubbed "The Snappening." Users of the 4chan Internet forum said hackers are getting ready to publish the photos online. The leak is reminiscent of an unrelated Apple iCloud hack earlier this summer, which resulted in nude photos of celebrities being posted across the web.
