Paul Greengrass Prepping MLK Assassination Pic

Call us cynical, but with Martin Luther King day right around the corner, the timing of word about a new MLK film is a bit suspicious. But, hey, it's Paul Greengrass, so we're game.

Greengrass has written a script, "Memphis," based on his own research of King's time in the Tennessee capitol trying to organize sanitation workers, reported Vulture. It was also, of course, where he died, just a day after giving his "I've been to the mountain top" address.

Producer Scott Rudin ("True Grit," "The Social Network"), who was reportedly close to hiring Greengrass to direct "Cleopatra," is said to be discussing the possibility of getting behind "Memphis."

As disappointed as we were with "Green Zone," Greengrass is still a talented director, with a gift for humanizing action and a history of tackling highly political stories. But we can't imagine Spike Lee is gonna be happy about this.
