The Real Deal has just reviewed a list of forbidden pets in New York City apartments according to a Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, and while the list might seem bizarre (Who would have a zorille in their apartment? You might ask.) the list is not unwarranted--people have tried to house all of these wild animals.
Many New York landlords have a "no pets" rule in place, but there is a way around the law, if tenants can prove that the animal is essential to their emotional well-being. Doctors are known to write notes for their patients prescribing them pets.
On the list: panthers, mongooses, aardwolfs, and "hundreds of other exotic beasts." Read the full story on The Real Deal.
