Oklahoma has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to issue stays of executions for three inmates scheduled for lethal injections this week because the justices are set to hear a challenge to one of the injection drugs, NBC News reported. The court will not be ruling until this summer whether the formula is constitutional, but because the execution dates have already been scheduled, the state believes only the court has the authority to stay the executions. Oklahoma's attorney general said the executions in the state should be put on hold until an effective drug is found, but reiterated the state's commitment to execute the three men, all convicted murderers.
