No Shortage of Cliches or Great Actors in “London Boulevard” Trailer

The trailer for "London Boulevard" is loaded with cliches, but damned if we couldn't help but enjoy it. Let's face it, we're suckers for a good--even a mediocre--British crime drama.

The film stars Colin Farrell as an ex-con who's fresh out of prison and eager to get on the straight and narrow. He soon finds work as a bodyguard for a beautiful movie star, Keira Knightley, and it won't surprise you to find they fall for each other. But it can't be that simple, no, so along comes a mob boss, Ray Winstone, determined to get Farrell back into the fold.

It appears to all be pretty standard fare, but Farrell was so great as a hitman in "In Bruges," and Winstone plays a crook as well as anyone alive. Add in co-stars David Thewlis, Anna Friel and Eddie Marsan, and you know you're at least in for some good-to-great acting.

The film marks the directorial debut of William Monahan, best known for his Oscar-winning screenplay for Martin Scorsese's "The Departed." Monahan, adapted the screenplay for this new film from Ken Bruen's 2001 novel of the same name.

"London Boulevard" opens in the UK on Nov. 26, but there's no U.S. release date yet.
