Egypt to Try Cop for Protester Death on Tahrir Anniversary

An Egyptian police officer accused of shooting dead a woman as she protested on the fourth anniversary of the country's Tahrir Square uprising will face criminal charges, the country's public prosecutor said Tuesday. The charges marked a rare move against the security forces, whom human rights groups have accused of abuses against Islamists and liberal activists. They come after protester Shaimaa Sabbagh was shot dead during protests one day before the anniversary of the unrest that ousted former President Hosni Mubarak in 2011.
