Afghanistan and the U.S. have signed a security pact allowing a contingent of U.S. forces to remain in the country beyond 2014. Ambassador James Cunningham signed the Bilateral Security Agreement on behalf of the White House, opposite Afghanistanโs national security adviser Mohmmad Hanif Atmar, NBC News reported. The signing comes one day after Ashraf Ghani was sworn in as president in Afghanistanโs first democratic transfer of power since outgoing President Hamid Karzai took power in 2001.
