Robber Locks Olive Garden Employees in Refrigerator

The employees were inside the refrigerator for 30 to 40 minutes, but no one was hurt, deputies say

An armed robber stormed into a Southern California Olive Garden on Monday and locked five employees inside an industrial refrigerator, officials said.

A man with a gun showed up to the restaurant in the 1800 block of Montebello Boulevard in Montebello just before 9 a.m., while it was closed, LASD Sgt. Long said. Five employees were inside.

The man locked them inside an industrial refrigerator, took the employees' cellphones, and left, Long said.

Deputies said the man also stole cash, but they did not know how much or whether it belonged to the restaurant or the employees.

The employees were inside the refrigerator for 30 to 40 minutes, but no one was hurt, Long said.

Additional details were not immediately available.
