Jennifer Aniston Making Final Bid for Relevance

After slogging though a string of dreadful films, Jennifer Aniston appears to have rededicated herself to working with genuinely funny people, having signed on to star in a pair of comedies that could help salvage her career and reputation.

Aniston will play a monstrous dentist in "Horrible Bosses," to be directed by Seth Gordon, about three friends who conspire to kill their employers, reported Deadline Hollywood. The film will co-star Jason Bateman, Colin Farrell and the brilliant Charlie Day of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" fame.

And in "WanderLust," she'll play alongside Paul Rudd as a married couple who try to bust out of their staid lives by joining a commune. The film, a Judd Apatow production, will be directed by David Wain and comes from a script he co-wrote with Ken Marino.

A decade ago, Aniston was making films like "Office Space" and "The Good Girl," and was regularly hailed by one supermarket rag or another as one of the sexiest women alive. "Then Along Came Polly" and her career got "Derailed," "Rumor Has It" in part because of "The Break-Up" she went through with Brad Pitt.

Who knows what actually went wrong, but what's clear is that she spent a long time making bad movies with unfunny people. She would occasionally team up with people like Nicole Holofcener and people would remember she was a decent actress who was nice to look at. But more often she made garbage like this year's "Bounty Hunter."

Aniston's next film is "The Switch," out Aug. 20, co-starring Jason Bateman, the year's second turkey baster romcom, but one that promises to be far more entertaineing than "The Back-Up Plan."

Now if she could just put this baby food diet nonsense behind her.
