Injured Bald Eagle Rescued From Side of Maryland Road

The eagle was suffering from a broken right wing and will require about two months care

A Charles County, Maryland, sheriff's lieutenant rescued an injured bald eagle that was found on the side of a road on Christmas Eve.

Lt. Jeff Wood, who is also a bird handler and trainer, discovered the injured bird on the side of Oaks Road in Bryantown, Maryland, on Dec. 24. Wood put on his aviary gear and gently picked up the eagle.

He was able to place the female bird in an eagle transport box and took her to Owl Moon Raptor Rescue, in Montgomery County, Maryland, who is caring for the injured animal. The eagle was suffering from a broken right wing and will require about two months care.

The sheriff’s office said the eagle weighed 11.6 pounds and was 40 inches long. They said she is a full adult female.
